Welcome back, I hope you all had a lovely summer break and enjoyed the sunshine.
This term we will be learning all about the Vikings and our ‘unlocking trip’ will be to Bishops wood outdoor learning centre where the children will have the opportunity to live as Saxons for the day, building shelters, weaving wool, making copper brooches as well as sitting in a Viking Long Ship and eating lunch in a Saxon Hall around an open fire. Our homework for the term will be related to our topic and will be sent home with the children on Monday 15th September. I will attach a copy to our web page in case any get lost during the term.
We will bring our topic to an end with a performance of our Viking Play and a special Viking news desk.
In literacy we will be looking at Science fiction and fantasy stories as well as investigating the features of discussion and explanation texts.
We will also be continuing our student led guided reading sessions which have proved very successful and should be up and running with minimal teacher interference in the next couple of weeks.
In science the children will begin studying living things and their habitats (ongoing throughout the year) as well as their topic on electricity which will include making their own torches.
Swimming sessions for class 3 will start after the Christmas break, details and goggles letter to follow nearer the time.
Can I take this opportunity to welcome all the new children to class 3; I look forward to a full and fun-packed Autumn term.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
