This week, in English, we are going to be looking at the book The Tin Forest by Helen Ward. It's a great book that begins with a windswept place, near nowhere and close to forgotten that was filled with all the things that no one wanted. The book tells the tale of The Tin Forest where an old man lives who tidies the rubbish and dreams of a better place. With faith, ingenuity and hard work, he transforms a junkyard into a wonderland.
Both Year 1 and Year 2 could have a look at this work as both year groups would enjoy the topic. However, if Year 1 choose to do this the should also do their daily RWI online lessons also to keep up to speed with reading and spelling. Although I have planned English using this book, there are many learning opportunities for art work and junk modelling too. The children could draw or make their very own little wonderlands or sanctuaries.
Enjoy and I can't wait to see your work!
