Literacy

Our new versions of Little Red Riding Hood...

This week we are going to write up our new versions of Little Red Riding Hood.

Each day we will take a different section of the story and write a simple sentence to go with it.

We look forward to seeing the finished books in class next week.

It would be great if the children could actually create a simple book.

Feel free to print the following template off to use.

The Front Cover

All books have a front cover

Can you search around your house and find some books.

Have a look at the front covers. What do you notice?

Do they all have a title?

Do they all have a name of a person on them? The name is the person who wrote the book, we call this the author.

Do they have a picture? We call this an illustration.

Do they have a name of a person who crated the pictures? We call this person the illustrator.

Which front covers do you like best? Why?

Today, we are going to create a front cover for our new version of Little Red Riding Hood. Find a piece of paper or use the printable from above and think about what you would like on the front cover.

Is the title going to be the name of your main character like Little Red Riding Hood is? Or are you going to call it something different?

What will your picture/illustration be? Will it be your favourite part of the story? Will it be your main character? Or will it be the Big Bad Wolf?

Do not forget to add your name as the Author!

Have a go at creating your front cover.

Page 1 - The Introduction

Today we are going to write page 1 in our neatest writing.

Page 1 will introduce our main character, setting and who they are visiting.

First, draw a picture of your main character in their setting. Remember your ideas from last week.

Now think of a good sentence to that includes your characters name, the setting and the relative they are going to visit.

My sentence would be...

Big Bouncing Beanie walked on the beach to see his Uncle Bert.

Remember your cursive letters and finger spaces.

Page 2 - The problem

Today, we are going to write about The Big Bad Wolf trying to catch your main character.

Think about how you would like the wolf to try and catch your character.

Will the wolf dress up in clothes (like in Little Red Riding Hood)?

Will the wolf hide in a cupboard?

Will the wolf hide behind the door?

What do you think the wolf might do?

First, draw a picture of that naughty wolf up to mischief.

Now write your sentence.

My sentence is going to be...

The furry grey wolf jumped out of the bed and tried to eat Big Bouncing Beanie.

Remember your cursive writing and finger spaces.

Will your main character make friends with the wolf?

Will the wolf catch your main character?

Will your main character catch the wolf?

First, draw a picture of what is going to happen.

Now write your sentence.

My sentence is going to be...

Big Bouncing Beanie gave the wolf some cake and they were friends.

Remember cursive writing and finger spaces.

Read Your Story

Stories are there to be read and enjoyed, and everyone loves a good story.

Can you read your story to a friend or relative and tell them about what happens?

Perhaps you could ring or zoom call someone who you have not seen for a long time and share your story with them.

Have fun, be confident and make someone happy!

Do not forget to bring your finished books into school on Monday to show the class.
