This week in maths we are looking at the story The Snail and the Whale.

Julia Donaldson wrote this very popular book.

Can you remember any other stories by Julia Donaldson?

The sea snail is a very small sea creature and the whale is a very large sea creature.

Both of these are living and they grow. Can you remember what else they do that helps us classify them as alive? If not click here...

Whales are amazing.

Did you know...

There are over 80 species of whale!

The largest whale - the Blue Whale - can grow over 30 meters.

See if you can work out how long that is using the length of your garden or bedroom or living room.

Do you know what type of whale is in the the story of the Snail and the Whale?

It is a Humpback Whale.

Do you know what a sculpture is?

Sesame Street: Sculpture with Jon Hamm

A sculpture is a piece of art that's made by shaping or carving something or putting things together.

See if you can find some materials around your home to create your very own fish sculpture.

Try doing an internet search of 'fish sculptures' and you will see many ways of creating wonderful pieces of art work. It could be real or abstract. Do you remember what abstract art is? Click here for the video from a few weeks ago.

You could use playdough (recipe), salt dough (recipe), junk modelling materials or anything else that you can build with.

Have fun and be creative. Do not forget to send me a photo of the finished pieces.

If you make more than one, why not put them together into an under the water sculpture scene.

Famous Sculptor
