Watch out there are dinosaurs about!

Do you know the names of any dinosaurs?

They have very strange names and sometimes the names are difficult to read.

Have a look at the link below and see if you can identify the dinosaur and read the dinosaur name.

Dinosaur Detectives

How do we know that dinosaurs existed?

We use fossil evidence, but what is a fossil?

Watch Maddie and Greg and find out...

How Is A Dinosaur Fossil Made? | Dino Week | #15 LET'S GO LIVE with Maddie & Greg

Calling all Junior Palaeontologists! This week 'Let's Go Live!' we'll be excavating and exploring the roar-some world of DINOSAURS! In this episode we'll sta...

Now you can make your own fossils!

Design a Dinosaur

Dinosaurs were all different and they had all evolved (evolution) to have specific body parts for specific reason.

Do you know what evolution is? Click here to find out.

The diplodocus had a long neck to reach tall trees, the stegosaurus had spikes on its back to scare off other dinosaurs and the T Rex had huge teeth to eat the meat of other dinosaurs.

If you evolved into a dinosaur what would you look like?

Can you draw a picture of yourself as a dinosaur?

Would you have body parts as weapons?

Would you have protection?

Would you have extra big parts of your body?

Dinosaur World

Dinosaurs lived on our planet over 200 million years ago (200,000,000 years ago).

That is a very long time ago!

The planet was very different then and the trees and plants all looked different.

Have a look at these photos and talk about what you can see.

How are they different to Hanley Swan or your garden?

Can you create your very own dinosaur habitat?

Do you know what a habitat is?

A habitat is a special place where some creatures live.

An ocean is a habitat where fish live, a rockpool is a habitat where a crab lives or a jungle is a habitat where a monkey might live.

You could make your habitat outside in a small space in your garden using natural materials.

You could make it out of a box and use paper and paint and other man made materials.

You could combine some natural materials and some man made materials.

When you have finished you can play with your dinosaurs in their new habitat.

Use your imagination and have fun!

Dinosaur Dinner Date

How do we know what dinosaurs ate?

Watch Maddie and Greg and they will show you how palaeontologists know the foods that dinosaurs enjoyed.

Dino Dinner Date (with Andy Day!) | Dino Week | #17 LET'S GO LIVE with Maddie & Greg

Can you make your own dinosaur poo?

Dinosaur Shadows

Dinosaurs have very distinct outlines.

A Stegosaurus is spiky, a Diplodocus has a very long neck and a T Rex has a very large mouth and stands on 2 feet.

Can you make shadows with your dinosaurs or the printouts below and see if your family can guess which dinosaur is which?

Shine a light behind a blanket and put the dinosaurs in between.

Can you create a dinosaur play using this technique?

Perhaps you could introduce a cut out volcano or some prehistoric trees. Be imaginative and have fun.

Eventually, all the dinosaurs died and they became extinct - this means they are no longer around.

Why did these amazing creatures all die out?

Watch Maddie and Greg to find out (Parents please note that they use the word f**t at 16:22 to introduce methane).
