History Intent
At our school, we believe that history is a powerful gateway to understanding the past, appreciating the present, and shaping the future. Our intent is fourfold:
Local History Emphasis: By exploring local history, children connect with their community’s heritage. They delve into significant local events, landmarks, and individuals, fostering a sense of identity and pride.
History Skills Development: Our curriculum hones essential historical skills. Pupils learn to ask insightful questions, analyze evidence, weigh arguments, and think critically. These skills extend beyond history, enriching their overall learning journey.
Linking Historical Knowledge: We encourage pupils to connect across different historical periods. Understanding how events interweave provides a broader perspective on human development and societal changes.
The impact of historic events: Our curriculum highlights how historic events shape our present. Pupils explore how decisions made in the past influence our society, culture, and individual lives today.
History End Points
At Hanley Swan, pupils will work towards the following end points in history:
-Develop a broad understanding of the chronology of British history and ancient civilizations.
-Investigate the past through the study of primary and secondary sources.
- Explore the impact of the legacy that people and events have had on the present day.
