Science Intent
At Hanley Swan C of E Primary School all pupils are entitled to be taught the key knowledge and skills in the science disciplines to develop an understanding of the world around them at an age-appropriate level and in line with The National Curriculum. Science is an integral core curriculum subject that develops skills progressively across year groups, it challenges thinking and supports disadvantaged children. The curriculum is adapted, designed and developed for children with special educational needs. Creative and logical reasoning, independent and responsible thinking are at the centre of learning. We aim to harness children’s natural excitement and curiosity and inspire them to pursue scientific enquiry. Throughout Hanley Swan C of E Primary School, children learn to explain and analyse phenomena, make predictions and solve problems. Children are given opportunities to give reasons for their thinking which ensures that logical reasoning is achieved. They plan, hypothesise, implement, present and evaluate work together. This in turn, encourages collaboration and other school values.
