Welcome Back Spring Term 2026

Welcome Back to Class 3 – Spring Term!

We are excited to welcome all the children back for the start of our spring term. This term, our topic is The Ancient Egyptians. We’ll be exploring fascinating aspects of this ancient civilization, including learning about the famous archaeologist Howard Carter and writing our own narrative inspired by the Pyramid of Giza.

As part of the National Year of Reading, we will continue to focus on reading for pleasure, encouraging children to discover the joy of books and stories.

We are looking forward to an exciting term of learning and creativity, and we truly value your support as we work together to help the children thrive.

We have a timetable outlining the subjects and content for the term:

Maths
  • Year 3 will focus on:

    • Multiplication and division strategies
    • Understanding money and making calculations
    • Length and perimeter
    • Fractions (introducing halves, thirds, quarters)
  • Year 4 will focus on:

    • Multiplication and division with larger numbers
    • Area and perimeter
    • Fractions and decimals
    • Developing problem-solving skills

Our aim is to help children build confidence and fluency in maths through practical activities, reasoning, and problem-solving. We encourage you to support your child by practising times tables and discussing real-life maths at home.

English

This term in English, we are following the Write Stuff approach to develop exciting and creative writing skills. Our main focus will be:

  • Narrative Writing: Inside the Pyramid – inspired by the short film Tadeo Jones, directed by Enrique Gato. Children will use this as a stimulus to create imaginative stories set in the mysterious world of Ancient Egypt.

  • Non-Fiction Writing: A detailed report on Howard Carter and his incredible discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. This will help children practise research, note-taking, and formal writing skills.

Alongside these units, we will continue to build vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension skills, encouraging children to read widely and enjoy books as part of the National Year of Reading.

History

Our topic this term is Ancient Egypt. The children will explore one of the most fascinating civilizations in history and learn about:

  • What we have discovered from the pyramids – how these incredible structures were built and what they tell us about life in Ancient Egypt.
  • Why the River Nile was so important – understanding how it shaped farming, trade, and daily life.
  • Who was Tutankhamun? – discovering the story of the boy king and his famous tomb.
  • The legacy of Ancient Egypt – exploring how Egyptian achievements in writing, art, and architecture still influence us today.

This topic will include hands-on activities, research, and opportunities for creative projects to bring history to life!

RE 

This term, we will be learning about Islam, one of the major world religions. Our lessons will help children understand and respect different beliefs and practices. Key areas we will explore include:

  • Beliefs about God (Allah) – understanding the concept of one God in Islam.
  • The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) – learning about his life and why he is important to Muslims.
  • The Qur’an – discovering why this holy book is central to Islamic faith.
  • Prayer and Worship – exploring how and why Muslims pray, and the significance of the mosque.
  • Special Festivals – learning about celebrations such as Ramadan and Eid.
Computing

This term, our focus in Computing is Animation. Children will learn how to:

  • Create simple animations using digital tools.
  • Understand how frames and sequences work to make objects move.
  • Explore how to add effects, sounds, and transitions to bring animations to life.
  • Develop problem-solving and creativity skills through practical projects.
PE 

This term, our PE focus is Swimming. Children will have the opportunity to develop water confidence and learn essential swimming skills, including:

  • Floating and basic strokes
  • Water safety and confidence
  • Improving technique and stamina
Music

This term in Music, we are exploring Latin Dance as part of the Sing Up curriculum. Children will:

  • Learn about the rhythms and styles that make Latin music unique.
  • Sing and perform songs inspired by Latin traditions.
  • Develop listening skills and an appreciation for music from different cultures.
Science

Our topic this term is Forces and Magnets. Children will investigate:

  • What is a force? – exploring pushes, pulls, and how forces affect movement.
  • Friction – understanding how surfaces can slow things down.
  • Magnets and magnetic materials – discovering which materials are magnetic and why.
  • Magnetic poles – learning about attraction and repulsion.
  • Everyday uses of magnets – finding out how magnets are used in real life.

Through hands-on experiments and investigations, children will develop their scientific enquiry skills and learn how forces and magnets play an important role in the world around us.

Art

This term in Art, we will explore creative techniques using cloth, thread, and paint. Children will:

  • Experiment with textiles by combining fabric and thread to create texture and patterns.
  • Learn stitching and layering techniques to add detail and depth.
  • Use paint alongside textiles to create mixed-media artworks.
  • Develop their understanding of colour, texture, and composition.
PSHE

PSHE – Dreams and Goals (Jigsaw)

This term, our Jigsaw PSHE theme is Dreams and Goals. Children will:

  • Explore what it means to have a dream or goal.
  • Learn how to set realistic goals and take steps to achieve them.
  • Understand the importance of perseverance and celebrating success.
  • Think about their own aspirations and challenges.
  • Learn strategies for overcoming obstacles and staying motivated.
  • Work collaboratively to plan and achieve group goals.
