  • Monthly Monday Maweni Market

    Sun 17 Apr 2016
This is a new and exciting entrepreneurial fundraising venture we are taking part in this year.

Each class has borrowed £10 from Mr Pratley and they have to use it wisely to make money for our friends in Maweni primary school.

The concept is simple - create something to sell at a school market. What will they sell? Which class will raise the most?

Class 1 will start the venture on the 25th April at 3:15pm. Please come along, bring some money and support the fundraiser.

    Class 1's Maweni Market
On Monday 25th April Hanley Swan C of E Primary School saw the making of 15 budding entrepreneurs. Each class has been set the challenge of using £10 to raise as much money as possible for their partner school, Maweni Primary in Tanzania. The reception children decided to use their money to buy ingredients for a milkshake bar as well as bringing in toys, books, cakes and organising a small raffle for parents. The children who are all 4 & 5 years old wrote letters asking for donations for the raffle, organised how much milk was needed, created the stalls and signs and advertised the event.
The event was a roaring success and the children made an amazing £250 for Maweni, which will be used to rebuild a classroom roof after it was badly damaged during a recent storm.
Following the event the class counted the money and wrote thank you letters to the businesses that supported the raffle, Hanley Swan Village shop and butchers, Caravan stuff 4 U, Meridian Packaging and the Swan Inn.
The children were enthusiastic and excited throughout. It was an amazing project and the children really rose to the challenge.
